The idea for Alone came from waiting at a bus stop!

Yes that’s right waiting at a bus stop.
Let me explain. I always use to catch a bus home from work. For the first few years I would wait alone at the bus stop. Then for a brief while some one worked at the shop who caught the same bus as me, so I would wait with them. This didn’t last that long because they moved on to another job, so I was left waiting for the bus all alone again (ah poor thing !) Hence the idea of being alone, finding a companion and then losing that companion.

The war background came from another still born story, in fact the opening scene was copied almost word for word, and is for me my most vivid and effective piece of writing yet!

In fact in general it is this story which I think is the closes to being read for publishing somewhere else, the problem is that it is just a short story, no one is going to publish a short story from an unknown author, so this will have to wait till I get something else out there

One of my friends asked me, after reading Alone, how much of me was in the main character, well in fact there is an awful lot of me in him, or at least there was at the time I wrote this, now days, maybe not so much. Perhaps that’s why it was so easy for me to write the story.
